Paul Murphy decries 'breathtaking cynicism' in hospital handover

Paul Murphy decries 'breathtaking cynicism' in hospital handover

Paul Murphy criticised the government's handling of a hospital site handover, calling it "breathtaking cynicism". He said the government handed over the land and hospital in the morning and then voted in the evening for a motion claiming to secure full public ownership.

Timeline of events

Paul Murphy set out the sequence he objected to - the government allegedly handed over the land and the hospital building in the morning, and later that same day voted in favour of a resolution that said it would secure full public ownership.

Accusation of hypocrisy

He described the juxtaposition of actions as "breathtaking cynicism" and "absolutely incredible," accusing the government of behaving hypocritically by doing one thing in practice and claiming the opposite in a motion later the same day.

Reference to party behaviour

Paul Murphy singled out the Green Party in his remarks, saying their actions in the day’s events demonstrated the pattern he criticised.

Legal ownership contention

He argued that being told something is "equivalent to ownership" does not make it ownership, and pointed listeners to legal documents, saying they make it clear that the arrangement is not ownership whatsoever.

Breathtaking cynicism has characterised the government's ramming through of this proposal and the height of the breathtaking cynicism is going to be this evening when the government is going to vote in favour of a motion that calls for the government to secure full public ownership of the site and new building on the very same day that they've done the very opposite I mean it's it's disgusting the level of cynicism and you're all used to telling untruths in election time and then breaking all those promises you look at the Green Party and what they will do today but to do it on the very same day to hand over the land and the hospital in the morning and then in the evening to vote in favour of a resolution to do the opposite is absolutely incredible if I have 10 seconds left just because you keep saying it's equivalent to ownership doesn't make it so if you look at the legal documents it's very clear this is not ownership whatsoever Thank you
