Danny Healy-Rae Asks to Extend Registration Deadline, Faces Interruption

Danny Healy-Rae Asks to Extend Registration Deadline, Faces Interruption

Danny Healy-Rae asked the Taoiseach whether the registration period for right-aways could be extended beyond November, proposing an extension for at least as long as the virus has affected the country. He also raised procedural concerns about whether the clock had been stopped during a vote and whether his question would be delayed until mid-September.

Question on clock and timing

He asked whether the clock was stopped while the vote was taking place or while the argument over the order of business was ongoing, and whether that meant his question and others on the list would have to wait until the middle of September.

Request to the Taoiseach

He directly asked the Taoiseach to extend the time for registration of right-aways beyond the date in November, suggesting the extension should last at least as long as the virus has affected the country.

Interruption and rules reminder

The speaker of the House interrupted Mr Healy-Rae, telling him to resume his seat and that he had not been reached, and reminded him that the agreed procedure and rules apply to everyone in the House.

What was the point of order? Was the clock stopped at all while the vote was going on? Yes, it was. Or while the argument was going on in relation to the order of business? Yes. I mean, does it mean that my question and the other people that are here on the list today will have to wait until the middle of September to raise the question? I wanted to ask the Taoiseach, see would he extend the time for the registration of right-aways beyond the topic of November to extend it at least as long as the virus has affected this country? No, no, no. Deputy Healy Ray, please resume your seat. And, and, don't call it. Deputy Healy Ray, you know the rules of the House the same as anyone. You haven't been reached. It's not my fault. Please resume your seat. We have to carry on with the business. So, we have an agreed procedure that applies to everyone. It applies to you, Deputy Healy Ray. I'm asking you to review the process that we have at the present time for people. I don't think they get in all the promise legislation. We will be reviewing the process. Yes, most definitely.
