Danny Healy-Rae: Calls for sanctions after Ryanair forced landing

Danny Healy-Rae: Calls for sanctions after Ryanair forced landing

Danny Healy-Rae spoke in the Dáil about a Ryanair plane that was forced to land and urged international sanctions and action to remove the dictatorship and restore an elected government. He thanked the ministers and the Government for being proactive and warned of dangers to civilians and to open skies.

Incident and parliamentary reaction

Danny Healy-Rae addressed the chamber about the forced landing of a Ryanair plane, comparing the spectacle to a James Bond scene but stressing the serious human consequences. He highlighted the presence of civilians on board and questioned what such actions mean for people living under that regime.

Call for sanctions and international coordination

The deputy called for sanctions and argued that the dictatorship must be rooted out and made to lose power. He urged the EU, the UN, the United States and the global community to join together to make it difficult for the regime to remain in office and to restore an elected government.

Concerns about safety and open skies

He warned that actions taken in "open skies" against a plane that was not their own set a dangerous precedent and asked what similar actors might be doing to their own citizens at home. The remarks framed the incident as both an international affront and a human-rights concern.

Praise for Government response

Danny Healy-Rae thanked the ministers and the Government for being proactive in their response to the incident and acknowledged other deputies' remarks, saying it was sad to see the harm being done to human beings.

I'm glad to get the opportunity to talk on this very important matter here this evening, and I want to thank the Minister Coveney and Minister Borne and the Government for being proactive in this regard, because this was a terrible thing that happened to a Ryanair plane that was forced to land. It reminds us of James Bond, but there's a serious, more serious aspect to this, and when you see what they did in the open skies to a plane that wasn't their own, and where there were civilians on board, what are they doing to their own people in their own land, and that's what we're hearing. And I'm worried about sanctions, you know, sure, that government or that dictatorship have to be sanctioned, and they have to be rooted out, and they have to, the global community must get together and root these fellows out of office, and make it difficult for them, and get them out of power. And we're all calling on the EU, and the UN, and the United States, and everyone, we must join together to ensure that this dictatorship is got out of office, and get them out of power, and restore an elected government in that country. And ensure that the people that live there, human beings, and like Deputy Durkan said, it's so sad to see what these villains are doing to honor human beings, and it's terrible, and we must all stick together to root these people out of where they are. Thank you very much, again. Thank you, guys. Thank you very much, thanks again. Thank you very much. Thank you very much.
