Danny Healy-Rae Seeks HSE Land for Ratmore School Extension
Danny Healy-Rae asked the Taoiseach and the Ministers for Education and Health to secure 0.16 of an acre from the HSE for Ratmore Holy Family School's planned extension. He said the thriving national school in East Kerry is very tight on room, its numbers are "up and up", and the land is needed urgently.
Request to the Taoiseach and ministers
Danny Healy-Rae urged the Taoiseach and the Minister for Education and the Minister for Health to come together and give the required 0.16 of an acre to the management of Ratmore Family School so the approved extension can proceed.
School capacity and need
Ratmore Holy Family School was described as a thriving national school in East Kerry that has received a green light for an extension. The deputy emphasised the school is very tight on room, that pupil numbers are "up and up", and that additional space is required urgently.
Land held by the HSE
The land sought is 0.16 of an acre held by the HSE on adjoining property. The request is for the HSE to release that piece of land to allow the school's management to undertake the extension.
Taoiseach's response
The Taoiseach said he would pursue the issue and expected the Minister for Education would also be dealing with it, while noting he was not clear on the HSE's position regarding that specific parcel. The Taoiseach added that across the country the HSE has in other cases provided pieces of land to enable school extensions.

Thank you very much, Taoiseach. Ratmore Holy Family School is a thriving national school in East Kerry. And I'm glad they've got a green light for an extension as they're very tight on room. However, they're seeking 0.16 of an acre from the HSE who are cited next door. I'm asking you, Taoiseach, and the Minister for Education and the Minister for Health to come together and give this required amount of land to the management of Ratmore Family School. As I said pre-outlining, it's a thriving school, the numbers are in up and up, and they need the space, and they need it urgently. Thank you very much, Taoiseach. Taoiseach, thank you, Debri. Certainly, I'll pursue that issue. I've no doubt that the Minister for Education will also be dealing with this, and I'm not clear in terms of the HSEs, you know, the importance of that piece of land, but I mean, I've been familiar with it down across the country where the HSE have provided pieces of land to enable school extensions and so on. So, we'll be very happy to see if we can help Ratmore National School in respect of this.
