Mattie McGrath: Demands Meeting Over Hotels Turned IPAS Centres
Mattie McGrath raised concerns about hotels in Tipperary being repurposed as IPAS centres and demanded the Minister for Integration meet local deputations. He criticised the lack of consultation over the use of Dundrum House Hotel and a historic Clonmel hotel for accommodation.
Hotels converted to IPAS centres
McGrath described Dundrum House Hotel in Tipperary being used for Ukrainian accommodation and later turned into an IPAS centre. He also referenced a historic Clonmel property, named in the transcript as Hens Hotel (also mentioned as Helm's Hotel), where around 87 IPAS placements were reported.
Calls for a meeting with the minister
He said he had asked the Minister for Integration to meet deputations from Dundrum and Clonmel and had written multiple times without a satisfactory reply. McGrath requested that the minister meet a small group in Dublin for a calm, sensible discussion about consultation and local concerns.
Concerns about consultation and community impact
McGrath argued there had been no consultation or engagement with public representatives or local communities before the hotels and town-centre premises were taken over as IPAS centres. He described the situation as "a totally unfortunate situation" for Clonmel and other affected areas and noted rumours about Kilosti village, which he said is more of a hamlet.

A response was noted in which the matter would be raised directly with the Minister for Integration and the minister would be asked to reply on the request for a meeting from the local deputations.

A common situation about Dundrum House Hotel in Tipperary, a famous hotel, has been turned into, it was represented for Ukrainians and had been turned into IPAS centre. We now also have the Hens Hotel in Clonmel, steeped in history in Charles Bairn Coney and 87 IPAS people going in there. Rumours about Kilosti village, which is not even a village, a Hamlet. I've asked last week for Mils O'Graham to meet his deputation from Dundrum and indeed from Clonmel, I'm asking today, and he said he'd be back to me first. and I've written three times since another word, it ain't fucking him on. Clonmel is a fine town, you know, and it needs a lot of help. What we didn't need was one of our hotels and town centre be taking over as an IPAS centre, without any consultation, engagement with anybody, public representatives, anybody else. So it's a totally unfortunate situation and I'm asking you to direct the minister for integration to meet with a small number of people. They'll come to meet him in Dublin, not going to bite him, they just want to have a sensible discussion about issues and consultation. the sense they have, when there was no consultation of any shape, make or form, about Dundrum House Hotel and Helm's Hotel.
