Mattie McGrath Criticises Fair Deal Discrimination Against Farmers
Mattie McGrath raised concerns about discrimination in the Fair Deal nursing home scheme, saying farmers and self-implied people have had assets stripped. He urged the Taoiseach and the minister to commit to bringing the Fair Deal scheme in immediately.

He said farmers and self-implied people are being totally discriminated against in relation to the Fair Deal scheme for nursing home care, and that their assets have been stripped when relatives become ill and need proper health care.

He said the proposal had been promised and "bandied around" for several years and recalled that the minister had previously said it had gone to Cabinet two or three years ago.
Demand for immediate action
McGrath pressed the Taoiseach directly, asking for a commitment to implement the Fair Deal scheme immediately to stop what he described as unfair treatment of affected families.

This has been promised and bandied around for several years now. Minister Jim Daly promised that it was gone to Cabinet two or three years ago. It is totally unacceptable that the farmers' assets have been stripped and self-implied business people, which there are many, their assets have been stripped when one of their maybe founder members or father or mother, the owners of the business, are sick and are needing of proper health care.
