Victor Boyhan Questions Delay in National Housing Plan

Victor Boyhan asked the leader to obtain from government and from the minister for housing and local government and heritage a date for a new national housing plan, saying the administration had promised a replacement or update to the existing housing for all plan. He raised the cancellation of a public-private partnership bundle in County Kildare and sought clarification on commencement dates and timelines for that development.

Request for national housing plan

Victor Boyhan asked the leader to ascertain when the government or the minister for housing and local government and heritage will publish a new housing plan or an update to the existing housing for all plan. He urged action before the summer recess, noting that months in government have passed without a national plan while there remains a housing crisis.

Cancellation of PPP bundle in County Kildare

He reported attending a commencement in County Kildare related to one of several public-private partnership bundles intended to provide social, affordable and private housing. He said the housing department had pulled out of that particular bundle and that the project will not proceed as planned.

Questions about ministerial attendance and information

Boyhan highlighted the absence of relevant ministers at commencement events, saying it has become common practice, and that only a minister of state from another department attended his commencement. That minister of state was unable to give clarity on when this and other PPP bundles would commence.

Thank you. I want firstly to ask the leader if he could ascertain from government or from one of the ministers in housing and local government and heritage as to when we will have the new housing plan. We were promised at the beginning of government that we would either have a new housing plan to replace the existing one or perhaps simply an update of the existing plan which is housing for all. I think it is important, we are now going into our summer recess, months in government and we still don't have a national plan, we have a housing crisis in this country so that is one. Two, today I had a commencement down in relation to our due in a county in Cildare in relation to one of a number of bundles, public private partnership bundles to provide some social and affordable housing and indeed private housing and in that particular case that bundle the government have pulled out or the housing department have pulled out and that won't be proceeding but that commencement matter threw up nothing, I mean we had none of the ministers from the department here which is now common practice but we did have a minister for state from another department and he was not able to enlighten us as to when this scheme of houses amongst a number of other bundles, public private partnership bundles would commence and I would ask Minister maybe as leader if you could ascertain from the department because it is rare we seem to be able to get a minister in from the relevant department that is relevant two-way commencement matter if you could pursue and ask them can they clarify for me and for the house in terms of what is the alternative starting date, what are the timelines in relation to our due development in the county county kildare, thank you.
