Richard Boyd Barrett: Accuses Western allies of Gaza crimes
Richard Boyd Barrett criticised Western leaders for complicity in violence in Gaza and called on the government to distance itself. He said the United States, Germany, Britain, Italy and France are complicit by supplying weapons and demanded an end to facilitating the sale of Israeli war bombs through the central bank.
He contrasted the Taoiseach's condemnation of Putin with claims that US and European leaders are also "brutal warmongers, imperialists and militarists." He accused Trump of giving billions to Israel to "commit a genocide" in Gaza and of promoting ethnic cleansing, criticised Frederick Mertz for inviting Netanyahu and called out Ursula von der Leyen and other European states as complicit.
He argued that Israel could not carry out what he called genocidal massacres in Gaza without weapons provided by the United States, Germany, Britain, Italy and France. He challenged the government to acknowledge that those supplier states are complicit and to call them out for their role in the violence.
He cited testimony from a United States trauma surgeon working in Gaza who described a young infant with limbs "blown to pieces" who would probably require all four limbs to be amputated. He used this account to illustrate the "horror" and "brutality" of the actions he criticised.
He repeatedly asked whether the government would publicly confront allied states over their complicity, distance the country from those allies and stop facilitating the sale of Israeli war bombs through the central bank.
