Michael Collins demands debate on delayed farmers' payments
Michael Collins called for an immediate debate in the House on long-delayed farmers' payments, pressing the Taoiseach and the Minister to address outstanding Acres, TAMS and SCEP payments. He highlighted that 9,300 farmers have been waiting since early 2024 for delayed Acres payments, including 2,300 waiting since 2023, and warned the delays put farmers under enormous pressure.
He said that for some people the wait stretches for months - a staggering 9,300 farmers have been waiting since early 2024 for delayed Acres payments, with 2,300 waiting since 2023.
He noted that farmers on TAMS and SCEP schemes are also awaiting urgent payments, and that these delays are affecting multiple support streams for farming families.
He pointed out the Minister has promised to solve the issue but urged the Taoiseach to allow an immediate debate in the House to try to address the backlog and secure timely payments.
He warned that waiting almost two years for income places enormous pressure on farmers and insisted a full parliamentary debate is required to find swift solutions.

Thank you very much. I agree with the previous speakers, but also there are other issues of serious concern too. Today we need time to debate about farmers' payments and the delay in the same. For some people up to months, a staggering, Taoiseach, 9,300 farmers are waiting since early 2024 on delayed Acres payments. 2,300 of these farmers are waiting for their payments since 2023. There are also farmers in Tams and SCEP schemes waiting for urgent payments. Taoiseach, the Minister has promised to solve this issue, but if you are waiting almost two years for your income, it really puts farmers under enormous pressure and a debate must be had in this House immediately to try and address that issue.
