Micheál Martin: Dialogue only way to resolve HSE dispute

Micheál Martin: Dialogue only way to resolve HSE dispute

Micheál Martin urges renewed dialogue between the HSE and unions after talks produced significant outcomes but failed to secure a majority in a subsequent ballot. He says dialogue is the only mechanism to resolve the dispute and appeals for re-engagement to protect a critical public service.

Talks and outcomes

Micheál Martin notes there was significant dialogue between the HSE and the unions which produced significant outcomes, even though those outcomes did not achieve a majority in the subsequent ballot.

Importance of the service

He stresses that the service at stake is vital to the public and that uninterrupted provision must be the priority for all parties involved.

Why dialogue matters

Martin argues that constructive negotiations remain the only realistic path to a durable settlement and that industrial action risks harming the public the negotiations aim to serve.

We would ask that people would enter into dialogue, I mean there was significant dialogue between the HSE and the unions which resulted in significant outcomes although it didn't achieve a majority in the subsequent ballot. It's vital that such a critical service is provided to the public so therefore I think dialogue is the only way and the only mechanism to resolve this dispute and I would appeal for people to re-engage.
