Carol Nolan urges action on veterinary medicines report
Carol Nolan spoke in the Dáil on 14 July 2021 about proposed regulations of veterinary medicines in Ireland, urging implementation of the Agriculture Committee recommendations. She called for urgent action to protect agri-merchant sector jobs and to ensure responsible persons and pharmacists can continue to prescribe.

The Agriculture Committee recently published a report on the proposed regulations of veterinary medicines, which Carol Nolan held in her hand during the speech. She said the report contains very clear commitments and recommendations that were agreed in a unified manner and supported cross-party and by industry stakeholders.
Jobs at risk in the agri-merchant sector
Nolan warned that time is running out and that there are thousands of jobs at risk connected to the agri-merchant sector. She asked when the committee's recommendations will be fully acted upon and fully implemented.
Prescribing rights and regulatory concerns
She urged that responsible persons and pharmacists be allowed to continue to prescribe veterinary medicines, stressing the urgency and noting she has raised the issue multiple times. Nolan framed continued prescribing as essential to protect the sector while regulations are finalised.
Engagement with the minister and next steps
Nolan appealed to colleagues to act on the recommendations and said the minister intends to work under the committee's recommendations. She suggested engagement with the minister so he can bring others up to date on the state of play.

Teachta, as you are aware the proposed regulations of veterinary medicines in Ireland, the report which I have here in my hand today was recently published by the Agriculture Committee, it contains very clear commitments and these commitments and indeed recommendations were agreed in a unified manner and supported cross-party and also by the industry, many stakeholders in the industry also support these recommendations and my question here is when will these recommendations be fully acted upon and fully implemented because time is running out, there are thousands of jobs at risk connected to the agri-merchant sector and I want to ask you to act upon these recommendations to ensure that responsible persons and pharmacists are allowed to continue to prescribe because it is urgent and I have raised it a number of times and we are, as I said to you earlier, running out of time so I appeal to you again to act on the recommendations but I think the intention of the minister is to work under recommendations and I think if you could engage with the minister on that I think he will bring you up to date in terms of the state of play
