7. Disclaimer
VideoParliament is an independent information tool. The platform does NOT represent any state institution, government, the Dáil (Dáil Éireann), the Seanad (Seanad Éireann), or any other government body. Materials presented are sourced from publicly available broadcasts and official services: oireachtas.ie, europarl.europa.eu.
8. Mobile and desktop applications
The VideoParliament applications — the mobile app for Android and the desktop app for Microsoft Windows — are extensions of the VideoParliament.ie platform. Both apps follow the same privacy-first design described below.
Data stored locally
The applications store the following data on the user's device only:
- List of followed politicians (identifier, display name, party, type)
- User preferences (notification settings, language, dark/light mode where applicable)
- Engagement statistics (desktop app only): counts of clips watched and parties followed, used solely to render local statistics in the application's "Engagement" view
On Android the data is stored under the application's private storage. On Windows the data is stored under %APPDATA%\ie.videoparliament.desktop\. This data is not transmitted to our servers and remains solely on the user's device. Uninstalling the application, or using the in-app "Remove all data" option (desktop), permanently deletes this data.
Server communication
The applications connect to the VideoParliament.ie API solely to retrieve publicly available data:
- List of politicians and their profiles
- Speech recordings (titles, dates, links to video materials)
- Optional remote banners (informational notices —
/api/app-banners.json)
During server communication, the device's IP address is processed — this is necessary for the network connection.
Application permissions
- Internet — to retrieve data from the platform
- Notifications — to inform about new speeches by followed politicians (optional, requires user consent on Android; uses native Windows toast / MSIX StartupTask on desktop)
- File system access (desktop only) — limited to the user-chosen save location for downloading individual MP4 recordings, and to the application's own data folder under
%APPDATA% - Auto-start (desktop only, optional) — the user may enable launching the application with Windows; this can be disabled at any time in the application's Settings
User account
The applications do not require registration, login or the provision of any personal data.
Third-party services in the applications
Video materials are displayed via YouTube (Google LLC). Video playback is subject to Google's Privacy Policy. The desktop application is distributed through Microsoft Store and benefits from automatic updates delivered by the Store; this update channel is provided by Microsoft Corporation.
9. Changes to this privacy policy
The operator reserves the right to amend this policy. The current version is always available at /privacy.
